We mostly watch old movies with wacky premises, most of them are horror, suspense, sci-fi, or just plain weird. It's more fun that way. I made this page (with Terry's help and blessing, of course) to further propel these movies into the world. Here's a list of every Mobie we've watched, with a little blurb containing my thoughts. CubeYear: 1997 Genre: Horror, Mystery Date watched: October 28, 2020 Summary: A group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps. Thoughts: The one that kicked things off. I hadn't watched many horror movies at this point, but I was open to it. My favorite part were the visuals, I had never seen anything like it before! Terry tells me there are sequels, but we haven't watched them. Either way, I loved it and I think it really opened my mind to horror. |

The BeesYear: 1978Genre: Horror Date watched: December 5th, 2020 Summary: Swarms of highly intelligent killer bees, intent on halting man's destruction of the environment, attack helpless people. Thoughts: Funniest shit ever lol. This is one of THE quintessential Ale Mobies. They try to turn the bees gay at some point! Amazing. Seriously, the attempts to get rid of the bees get increasingly stupid, it's great. But the best part? The scoring and soundtrack. The bees are causing chaos and the background music is just so cheerful and triumphant. Hilarious. (WATCH HERE) |

Chicken LittleYear: 2005Genre: Adventure Date watched: January 15th, 2021 Summary: After ruining his reputation with the town, a courageous chicken must come to the rescue of his fellow citizens when aliens start an invasion. Thoughts: FUCK CHICKEN LITTLE'S DAD, ALL MY HOMIES HATE CHICKEN LITTLE'S DAD. We watched this with a group of random people, I had actually never watched this in full before. I hated movies when I was a kid, I don't know why. Anyway. Fuck everyone in that town though for real. Also why is the poster his butt. The end is near? More like the end is rear am I right? |

The MistYear: 2007Genre: Horror, Thriller Date watched: July 25th, 2021 Summary: A freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives. Thoughts: Very chilling... For some reason we started calling the religious lady "Deborah" and now we use the phrase "Deborah Moment" for whenever someone starts acting like a religious zealot in an inappropriate situation. NothingYear: 2003Genre: Comedy, Horror Date watched: July 29th, 2021 Summary: After a terrible day, two good friends and housemates find the outside world converted into a featureless and empty white void. Thoughts: THIS MOVIE MADE ME CRY. I don't know, the end credits song just made me very grateful to have Terry in my life. But anyway, I loved this movie. It's one of the ones I frequently recommend to people now, it's funny in a twisted way. Who doesn't love seeing two guys absolutely lose their minds in a white void? (WATCH HERE) |

Re-AnimatorYear: 1985Genre: Horror Date watched: August 11th, 2021 Summary: After an odd new medical student arrives on campus, a dedicated local and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue. Thoughts: You know it, you love it. We watched this one with some folks from a horror movie fan Discord server Terry was in at the time. It's a tumblr favorite at this point it seems, I liked it well enough but it's not my favorite of these Mobies. But I understand why the tumblrinas love it. Like yeah, it's really fucked up if a guy did all of that stuff if you think about it. |

Ginger SnapsYear: 2000Genre: Horror Date watched: September 11th, 2021 Summary: Two death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf. Thoughts: OUGH. Lycantropy as a metaphor for puberty always goes hard. I loved this movie a lot. The outfits were gorgeous, the set design was amazing too and the story had me hooked. I love tragic teenage girl movies. Seriously, this is definitely up there in my favorite movies now. Go watch it. (WATCH HERE) |

Meet The ApplegatesYear: 1990Genre: Comedy, Horror Date watched: October 14th, 2021 Summary: Modelling themselves after an idyllic cookie-cutter suburban 1950s family, a colony of insects move from South America into the United States with the intent of getting access to the nation's nuclear resources. Thoughts: This is really funny satire. Like, as a non-American, this to me is what 1950s suburbia was like. Maybe I find it funny because I think Americans live weirdly. Therefore it is also unsettling and scary LOL but also I love the bug-esque special effects that pop up every so often when their human forms slip up. If you watch this, be wary that there's a sexual assault scene (and no, I don't find that part funny.) Proceed with caution! (WATCH HERE) |

HobgoblinsYear: 1988Genre: Comedy, Horror Date watched: January 15th, 2022 Summary: A group of hobgoblins, who allow you to live out your fantasies but kill you in the process, escape from a studio vault, and a security guard and his friends must stop them before dawn. Thoughts: This movie is so fucking funny. Like it's so so bad in the funniest way. It's one of those movies where everyone is just so incompetent. And also they're all horny. It's just a bad Gremlins ripoff. Fantazia the woman from the sex hotline is so fucking iconic. Terry and I love her. She's our queen. |

Thoughts: The most entertaining "BuT WhAt iF ViOlEnT BidEo GaeM ReAL?" movie I've seen so far. This one is part of a category I call Grimy Mobies, which are movies, usually from the 90s, with distinctively dark/grimy/grotesque visuals. Y'know, the grunge decade. My Science ProjectYear: 1985Genre: Sci-Fi Date watched: April 21, 2022 Summary: A teen and his girlfriend raid a military junkyard and find a time-travel contraption from a UFO. Thoughts: I loved the way the characters dressed in this one. And the story was the perfect brand of wacky sci-fi weirdness I love. Ellie is really nice, she's one of my favorite protagonists in these Mobies! |

Teenagers from Outer SpaceYear: 1959Genre: Sci-Fi Date watched: May 7th, 2022 Summary: A young alien and a teenage earthling fall in love, and plot to stop the alien's race from using Earth as a food-breeding ground for giant lobsters from their planet. Thoughts: WAAAAAAHHHHH. This one is another movie I like to recommend to people. Sorry, I'm not immune to sweet 50s teenage love story. I really liked it. Lunatics: A Love StoryYear: 1991Genre: Drama, Comedy Date watched: May 11th, 2022 Summary: A delusional and paranoid poet saves a beautiful girl and becomes a hero. Thoughts: I understand the portrayals of characters in this are like. Very Stereotypical and haven't aged well. But I really like this movie. It's funny and sweet. It's bonkers. Killer Klowns From Outer SpaceYear: 1988Genre: Sci-Fi, Horror Date watched: May 14th, 2022 Summary: Aliens who look like clowns come from outer space and terrorize a small town. Thoughts: This one we watched with a bigger group of friends and we all had a lot of fun. What's there to say? It's one of THE iconic clown movies. The special effects are just so GOOD! Like it's crazy to me how good they are. The three leads should stop being in a love triangle and become a throuple. That's the conclusion we all came to. |

FreakedYear: 1993Genre: Comedy, Sci-Fi Date watched: May 27th, 2022 Summary: A vain actor, his best friend, and an activist end up at a mutant freak farm run by a weirdo scientist. Thoughts: The quintessential Grimy Mobie. It's another one that's also poorly aged a lot but I still find entertaining. Alex Winter is in this and he plays a total asshole rich guy. Joe's ApartmentYear: 1996Genre: Comedy Date watched: June 1st, 2022 Summary: A nice guy has just moved to New York and discovers that he must share his run-down apartment with a couple thousand singing, dancing cockroaches. Thoughts: Very funny honestly. That amount of roaches would absolutely suck to have around in real life, but they were so nice in the movie at the end. It's up to Leslie's daughter to find a cure and help her mother. Thoughts: I personally found it really funny. I loved Jennifer's friend Stacy. She seems so super cool, I liked that the cool sidekick character with horror/weird interests was a girl y'know? Other than that, it's probably one of my top werewolf movies. Thoughts: This is one of those movies where the characters get punished for being horny LMAO. It manages to be unsettling at times, but overall it's your average teen horror movie, with themes of "oh no....the adults think rebelling is bad and theyre locking every cool teen up..." |

Little Miss SunshineYear: 2006Genre: Comedy, Drama Date watched: July 31st, 2022 Summary: A family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus. Thoughts: Another one that became an instant classic/absolute favorite for me. It's funny, it's feelgood, it's lowkey messed up. It's just great all in all. Movies about dysfunctional groups of people bonding together and having both a great and an awful time are the best. If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for a slice of life movie. |

Chopping MallYear: 1986Genre: Slasher Date watched: August 19th, 2022 Summary: Three malfunctioning security droids terrorise a group of teenagers locked inside a shopping mall. Thoughts: I really liked this one! I love going to the mall and ever since I was a kid I've wondered what it'd be like to be in a mall at night when it closes. Glad I didn't watch this as a kid because I would've probably been traumatized LOL. I'm glad that my favorite characters were the ones who survived at the end too. Sweet nerdy people rock. Thoughts: Oghhh,..,,. I'd personally use the horror label lightly, as it's not really that scary, do I dare say it's heartfelt? It was a bit hard to follow for me because it has a lot of things going on, but the visuals are gorgeous. This is another Grimy Mobie and it does the grime well. Thoughts: I have a weird memory of me, aged 7, falling asleep at my mom's friend's house and waking up to this movie playing on the TV. Didn't watch it back then though. I enjoyed it now that I actually sat to watch it, although it started lagging on my computer towards the end. The animation was really good. This also goes in the Grimy Mobie category. |

Thoughts: Honestly this is another one of my favorite Mobies. It's just unhinged and I had a good time watching it. I guess it's because I was still going to art school at the time we watched this, and I was like "Yeah, this is believable. I totally think there's people at my college who would do this." I had wanted to watch it for years even before meeting Terry, but never got to because I'm lazy. Star Trek IV: The Voyage HomeYear: 1986Genre: Sci-Fi Date watched: May 10th, 2023 + May 12th, 2023 (Yeah we watched it twice...) Summary: To save Earth from an alien probe, Admiral James T. Kirk and his fugitive crew go back in time to San Francisco in 1986 to retrieve the only beings who can communicate with it: humpback whales. Thoughts: Like many people, it's my favorite Star Trek movie. I had a whole lot of fun showing it to 3 of my friends! They had fun too and we made memes and jokes about it :o) always a good time. |

TwisterYear: 1996Genre: Adventure, Suspense Date watched: May 26th, 2024 Summary: Two storm chasers on the brink of divorce must work together to create an advanced weather alert system by putting themselves in the cross-hairs of extremely violent tornadoes. Thoughts: It was awesome. I was the only one in our little friend group Discord server who hadn't watched this, so I decided to watch it after finding out it was released on the same day as my birthday. The characters felt like real people and the soundtrack is FIRE. I feel so bad for Melissa though :o( |

Rat Pfink a Boo BooYear: 1966Genre: Comedy Date watched: July 12th, 2024 Summary: After stopping three crooks from robbing an innocent woman, two dimwits become crime fighters. Thoughts: I was skeptical at first but then I was laughing my ass off. I was having the worst day ever when we watched it and this movie singlehandedly changed that. It's so stupid. Totally turned my day around. Truly one of the movies of all time. |

HackersYear: 1995Genre: Crime, Drama Date watched: July 22nd, 2024 Summary: Teenage hackers discover a criminal conspiracy with plans to use a computer virus that will capsize five oil tankers. Thoughts: THIS GOES SO HARD. It definitely makes the world of computers and hacking look so much cooler lol. The visuals? Amazing. The fashion? Goes incredibly hard. The main characters? So cool and fun. Shoutout to Phantom Phreak (why is he not on the poster!????) and Cereal Killer, they were my favorites. It was just a really fun movie. |

SinglesYear: 1992Genre: Romance Date watched: August 31st, 2024 Summary: A group of young adults in their twenties, who live in the same apartment building in the city of Seattle, ponder on love and face all the challenges of adulthood. Thoughts: I wanted to watch this because of the band cameos. Terry was kind enough to indulge me, and I ended up really loving the movie itself. I'd say we had a really awesome time even if this isn't the kind of movie we usually watch. Death Becomes HerYear: 1992Genre: Comedy, Horror Date watched: October 6th, 2024 Summary: When a fading actress learns of an immortality treatment, she sees it as a way to outdo her long-time rival. Thoughts: LOL this was so funny! I love unhinged women so much. I loved these characters so much. I love stupid convoluted plots to kill characters that just don't work. Also, if we had a nickel for every time we watched a movie where the two toxic codependent leads ended up as disembodied heads at the end... Well, we'd have two nickels, which isn't much but it's funny that it happened twice. |

DemonsYear: 1985Genre: Slasher Date watched: November 10th, 2024 Summary: A group of random people are invited to a screening of a mysterious movie, only to find themselves trapped in the theater with ravenous demons. Thoughts: This movie was kinda silly, honestly, everyone was overacting a lot which made it really funny. But the special effects were off the charts!! They were amazing! We started joking that they had a Joker infestation going on. The guy in the mask kinda looked like the album cover for Stained Class. There was also a character named Ripper whose side profile looked a bit like Jay from Marble Hornets. You can make anything into a hyperfixation reference if you try. Soundtrack was cool, man. PhenomenaYear: 1985Genre: Crime, Horror Date watched: January 6th, 2025 Summary: A young girl who has an amazing ability to communicate with insects is transferred to an exclusive Swiss boarding school, where her unusual capability might help solve a string of murders. Thoughts: This movie was a rollercoaster. It started out as one thing and ended up off the rails. It was just crazy all over and I think I like it more than Demons, the other Dario Argento film we've watched. These italians are something else dude. The soundtrack for this one included Motorhead and Iron Maiden, so I guess the producers of these are metalheads. I want to shout out all the animals in this, like Inga, and the one sarcophagus fly that accompanied Jennifer, who Terry and I nicknamed Sarcy. Do not watch this if you're in any way squeamish btw. What We Do In The ShadowsYear: 2014Genre: Comedy, Horror Date watched: January 23rd, 2025 Summary: Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are vampires who are struggling with the mundane aspects of modern life, like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts. Thoughts: I LOVE A MOCKUMENTARY. I LOVE VAMPIRE MEDIA THAT DOESN'T TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY. THIS SHIT WAS SO FUCKING FUNNY. Seriously I was cackling and chortling all the way through this movie. I had never seen it. Haven't seen the TV show either. I haven't really seen anything ever, dude. I had a great time. I would write a longer review of this movie, but man, I just can't seem to remember any of it! (wink wink) |

Speed RacerYear: 2008Genre: Action, Adventure Date watched: February 11th, 2025 Summary: Young driver Speed Racer, aspires to be champion of the racing world with the help of his family and his high-tech Mach 5 automobile. Thoughts: I remembered this from TV reruns but I never actually watched it in full aside from small snippets. I also remember the kids in my class being obsessed with it in like first grade. It's more of a trip than I thought, like it's so crazy colorful and flashy, but I guess that was a trend in the 2000s. Those races are less actual racing and more like a Beyblade battle LOL! The editing throughout the entire thing was top notch. It was really fun, and I loved the interior design of the Racer house. I need to live there. |

DementedYear: 2000Genre: Comedy Date watched: March 20th, 2025 Summary: An insane independent film director and his renegade group of teenage filmmakers kidnap an A-list Hollywood actress and force her to star in their underground film. Thoughts: IT'S ABSOLUTELY HYSTERICAL! There wasn't a moment where I wasn't laughing my ass off. Well, it's a John Waters movie, so it tracks. The characters are all great. They're all deranged in their own special way and their makeup and clothes were top notch. Chardonnay was my favorite, but Raven is a close second.
